The Royal Academy invited me to represent the United Kingdom in Kyoto, where the Music Festival featured amazing music from countries around the world, including representatives from: Spain, The UK, America, Japan, Germany, France, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy, Russia and Switzerland. Each day of the festival there was a concert featuring two countries and I shared the platform with the American students from the Julliard School. Juilliard put forward a trombonist and Sean and I are still in contact today. I felt honoured to be able to perform music as a soloist, with a brass ensemble (made up of Japanese and American musicians) and as principal trumpet of the festival orchestra. It is an experience that I will never ever forget – this tour came right at the end of my time studying at the Royal Academy of Music and was most certainly the icing on the cake.
